Salisbury’s Motorcycle & Light Car Club is holding their annual Charity Motorcycle Run this Sunday (19th September) in aid of River Bourne Community Farm.
The event will start at the Wyndham Arms, Dinton at 11am (signing on from 10am) and see motorcycle riders travel 50 miles through the Wiltshire and Dorset Countryside.
The event is open to all riders, not just club members. The run is for pre-1990 machines but other riders are welcome. Entry costs £6 for Salisbury Club Members £6 with a membership card, and £7 for non-members, with £4 from each entry being donated to River Borne Community Farm.
Ian Futcher, Publicity manager at Salisbury Motorcycle and Light Car Club, told Love Salisbury that the club wanted to pick a charity specifically local to Salisbury this year.
“This year we wanted to benefit a Salisbury charity in particular after the effect the pandemic has had on local charities. Laverstock Community Farm lost its footfall as a result of the pandemic so we voted to support this charity and we are hoping we can boost their funds. This will be our fourth event for the charity this year,” explained Ian.
Saje Hancock, Education and Marketing Manager at River Borne Community Farm said, “River Bourne Community Farm is thrilled to have been chosen by the Salisbury Motor Cycle and Light Car Club as the organisation that they would like to fundraise for. They are holding some exciting events this year and we wish them every success".
This year is a particularly special motorcycle run for the club who are celebrating their centenary. To celebrate, the club has had a special centenary logo designed and hopes to reschedule plans for a motorcycle fun day at Hudson's Field next year.
Every year the run is in remembrance of Michel Noël (George) Mavrogordato (1903 – 1984), an early aviator, TT racer and Salisbury motorcycle shop owner.
Coffee and bacon butties will be available before the run and a good lunch can be booked in advance.
Machines must conform to the requirements of the Road Traffic Act. Riders take part at their own risk.
Salisbury Motorcycle & Light Car Club meet at the Rugby Club every 2nd Wednesday and for monthly afternoon runs. For more details, or to apply for membership please click here.
