Alabaré marks 30 years with new appeal

As Alabaré go into their 30th year, the charity is celebrating its success stories while launching a new appeal for support.

Alabaré is a Wiltshire-based charity that supports people who are vulnerable, marginalised and homeless.

Since 1991 Alabaré has helped thousands onto a positive pathway, supporting those with mental health issues, assisting with accommodation and employment and providing safe refuge during times of crisis.

However, underneath these success stories, the needs of vulnerable and disadvantaged people are as great as ever.

Since working with the team, Adam has moved into his own independent flat and he is rebuilding his life. He’s especially keen to help others by ensuring they do not end up in the same position as he did.

One such success story is Adam. Following redundancy, Adam ran up multiple debts and then nearly lost his life to a drugs overdose. After the end of the first lockdown, Adam joined Alabaré, suffering from extreme social anxiety.

Adam said: “Somebody cared. Someone was there to listen, and someone cared when I thought no-one would, or should.”

Andrew Lord MBE, Chief Executive of Alabaré, commented: “Alabaré cannot continue its vital work without the kindness and generosity of its donors. We are so grateful for the gifts of time, prayers and money that have meant that together we have helped thousands of people in the last 30 years. However, there are many more who need us today.

“As 2021 continues to present challenges, such as the end of the furlough scheme in September, and tenancy eviction notices reverting at the beginning of October, it must be acknowledged that the crisis will continue for many.”

Anyone wishing to donate can do so here, or visit the website to find out about other ways to get involved.
