The pandemic shut the doors of the Chapel Nightclub in March 2020, but this week will see the start of an exciting new chapter for this iconic Salisbury venue.
The Chapel has its sights set on a new future, alongside its sister venue Brown Street, as they prepare to reopen this week with an exciting new trajectory into the world of cultural and fringe arts, as it transforms into an exciting new grassroots arts venue for the city of Salisbury.
Amanda Newbery, Managing director of The Chapel and Brown Street, explains that it is not the end of the Chapel as we know it.
“We promise we won’t be leaving the city without a place to dance the night away, we are just changing the way we work in line with a very different post-pandemic world. Instead of opening every weekend as a nightclub, we will be hosting an array of events and ticketed nightclub nights to appeal to a larger and more varied audience giving the city and its nighttime economy the variety it craves.
“We are very lucky to have an array of rooms to host multiple events at time be it community, arts, music or club events, hopefully, some festivals in the future too, it’s an exciting time for us all”.
Thanks to the Arts Council Cultural Recovery Grant received this year, The Chapel has been able to keep going and broaden its entertainment. offer. Chapel Live will be hosting an array of exciting live events as Steph Shearing, Events and Partnerships Manager, explains.
“After a year and a half of uncertainty for the arts we are excited to be working with a wide range of artists, performers, promoters and organisers to choreograph our exciting and ever-growing calendar of events and club nights, these range from burlesque, theatre, cabaret, comedy, drag shows and a whole host of live music from a plethora of genres.
“We are also excited to be engaging with young and upcoming talent from the local area to showcase what we have right on our doorstep. We are keen to work with more organisers and promoters nationally to expand our event offer further so please get in touch if you would like to find out more.”
Chapel Live’s first events include shows from 100-Watt Club Burlesque, Cabaret
Expresso, music performances from Show of Hands, Tom Robinson & HP, and the Reggae Reggae Source as well as being the host venue for the brand-new Salisbury Comedy Club launching with comedian Seann Walsh.
